FVP National Sprint League News and Notes from “Fair Speedweek”!

FVP National Sprint League News and Notes from “Fair Speedweek”!

Windom, MN (July 28, 2015) – It was a whirlwind, but FVP National Sprint League “Fair Speedweek” has come and gone! Great crowds met the series all week long, and they were treated to some great racing as well! Four different winners graced Victory Lane in the four events contested, solidifying the fact that you never know who will emerge on top on any given night!

Bill Has a Blast in Britt – Last offseason, seven-time IRA champion, Bill Balog made a commitment to go head to head night in and night out with the best in the Midwest, the FVP National Sprint League. His share of bad luck has cost him, but he rose to the occasion and finally got a break in front of a packed house at the Hancock County Speedway in Britt, Iowa last Tuesday. Seventh, second and 11th place finishes the rest of the week have him sitting an impressive fourth in the point standings. A broken front axle slowed him after he drove from 11th to seventh at Huset’s Sunday. After the repair, he restarted 24th before charging back to 11th.

Big Crowd to Please – Craig Dollansky shook off some 2015 frustration by leading from green to checker at the Iowa State Fair Speedway in Des Moines on Wednesday. The Elk River, Minnesota native is driving for the TKS Motorsports #2KS team headed by Troy Renfro. Renfro, who wrenches for Matt Moro on Friday nights in Des Moines, also enjoyed his first win as a car owner in his inaugural season in that role. Fans waited in lines as long as three blocks for tickets as extra help was called in by the track and they were also aided by the NSL. Sprint car fans are alive and well in the Des Moines area!

Buffaloed in Jackson – Dusty Zomer may be the hottest driver in the Midwest right now. He led every lap at Jackson Speedway in Minnesota Thursday. The Buffalo Wild Wings team took the first two nights of Speedweek off to prepare, and it paid off. Zomer won in the 410 class at Knoxville Raceway in Iowa on July 18. He backed up his Jackson win Thursday by winning in the 360 class at Knoxville Saturday and finishing second at Huset’s with the NSL on Sunday. Look for the team to possibly run both a 410 and 360 at the “Road to Knoxville” this week at I-80.

Breaking a Streak with #60 – Sunday’s winner at Huset’s Speedway in South Dakota was no surprise. Mark Dobmeier posted his 60th career win on the bullring, which is second all-time. The leading career feature winner at River Cities Speedway in his hometown of Grand Forks, North Dakota posted win #111 there on Friday. Dobmeier also broke streaks of six different winners in six events for the NSL and four straight for first time winners. He started that one with his first NSL win at Park Jefferson International Speedway on July 10.

No Dakota for Dakota – Dakota Hendrickson had a rough week in general. He got upside down in Des Moines, and pulled off early in Jackson. Saturday night, in weekly competition at Knoxville, he suffered a horrendous crash at the end of the front straightaway, destroying his car. Fortunately, after being briefly knocked out, soreness is all he is suffering. The recent high school graduate from Omaha is taking things easy day to day in deciding when he may return. The Huset’s race was the first he’s missed with the series since his sister got married on April 11…the inaugural race for the series.

Consistent Finishers – Aussie Ian Madsen, Indiana’s Bryan Clauson and point leader, Danny Lasoski had solid weeks. Madsen, the defending Knoxville track champion posted second, sixth and fifth place finishes in addition to a 13th at Des Moines after spinning. Ian’s strong week has him third in points behind Lasoski and Tim Kaeding. Clauson had a third, two fourths and a sixth place finish as he rose to seventh in the standings despite missing an event due to the Indy 500 in May. Lasoski had a pair of podium finishes in addition to two fourth place finishes.

Juhl Shines – The improvement of Matt Juhl has been evident of late. He qualified for the redraw on two familiar tracks, Jackson Speedway and Huset’s Speedway. A podium finish at Huset’s in weekly action on July 19 was also a good sign. The Tea, South Dakota driver has been to every NSL event in the family #09 machine.

A huge event awaits the FVP National Sprint League this week. The 1st Annual “Road to Knoxville” will pay a Nebraska two-day record $140,000 sprint car purse. The event will be co-sanctioned with the Lucas Oil ASCS Series and will see drivers from both sanctions pulling double duty! It will be held at the 4/10-mile I-80 Speedway near Greenwood Thursday and Friday, July 30 and 31. For more information on the FVP National Sprint League, visit www.NationalSprintLeague.com!
