Bill Balog
Duking it out with Smoke for the Win!!
Bristol, WI – June 19, 2013. Bill Balog and the B2 Motorsports headed to Plymouth, WI this past weekend to the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds to take on the Interstate Racing Association and a special guest on hand for the evening, in which would be the 3-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Champion of Tony Stewart. Bill would qualify in the 3rd position of the 32 cars on hand at the quarter-mile facility. Lining up in the 6th starting position in the 3rd heat race, Bill would methodically maneuver the 17B sprinter to the front and take his 4th heat race win of 2013. With “Smoke” being the top qualifier, he would draw a #4 pill for the feature invert lining Bill up directly in front of him in the 6th starting position. At the drop of the green Bill would make his charge forward and overtake the #85M of Steve Meyer for the lead on lap 4 and begin lapping cars at will until a lap 8 stoppage for a debacle in turn three. After two restarts, it was back to green flag racing as Bill caught the back of the field again and began lapping cars keeping several lap cars between himself and Stewart’s #14 sprinter. On lap 17 Bill got hung up by a couple lappers and that was all Stewart needed to reel the #17B sprinter in and put a slider on Bill in turn three. After a few laps Bill would regain his momentum and slowly reeled the Stewart in as he would put a slide-job on Stewart in turns three and four and retake the lead on lap 26. Stewart would regain the lead in turns one and two, but Bill was not done as the pair continued to swap leads on each end of the track. Coming to the white flag Bill would get by Stewart one last time with a slider in three and four, but Stewart once again countered in one and two of the last lap. Stewart took the low line going into turn three to block any slider that Bill could put on him so Bill powered his way around the top of the track and tried to dive under the #14 coming out of turn four coming to the checked flag, but would come up just a car length short of beating the NASCAR star in front of the capacity crowd ending Bill 4-race winning streak against the IRA and 3-race win streak at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds.
This week, the 17B sprint car and driver Bill Balog will head up Highway 41 on Friday, June 21st to the Oshkosh Speedzone Raceway in Oshkosh, WI. Bill was 2 for 2 at the 1/3 mile clay oval in 2012. The team will then take Saturday night off as they will be preparing for an Outlaw triple-header the following weekend. On Friday, June 28th the team will head to the LaSalle Speedway in LaSalle, IL. From there the team will head back into Wisconsin to the Beaver Dam Raceway in Beaver Dam, WI on Saturday, June 29th. The team will then wrap up the weekend up north at the Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, WI on Sunday, June 30th. Bill has had success at all 3 – tracks as he has won the past 2 – LaSalle Speedway races with the IRA, he has won 2 of 3 Beaver Dam Raceway IRA races in 2013, and he picked up a dominating victory at Cedar Lake just a few short weeks ago with the IRA.
