Bill Balog
Victorious at 141 Speedway!!
Bristol, WI – May 30, 2013. Bill Balog and the B2 Motorsports Team had a double-header of sprint car racing planned this past weekend, but a call mid-week changed those plans. Instead, Bill would run the Lein Acres #2 midget Saturday night at Angel Park Speedway in Sun Prairie, WI and then back into the 17B sprint car on Sunday at 141 Speedway in Francis Creek, WI.
Bill would be the 8th car to qualify on Saturday night and would hold the top qualifying position until the end when Zach Daum would overtake the top spot which would make Bill 2nd fastest of the 22 midgets on hand. With a heat race invert of 4 rows, Bill would start in the 8th position behind some stout competition such as eventual feature winner Michael Pickens, Brad Kuhn, and Mike Hess. Bill would overtake 3 cars in the heat race to make his way into the 5th and final transfer position. Lining up in the 4th starting position in the feature, Bill would lose some positions at the start, but would lose all track position on lap 6 as the right rear tire would go flat. After a visit to the work area, Bill would tag the field and make a charge forward the remaining laps and end his night with an 11th place finish.
Sunday night it was back to sprint car racing at Bill and the B2 Motorsports team was set to take on the Interstate Racing Association at the 141 Speedway in Francis Creek, WI. Another late draw would put Bill towards the end of qualifying of the 31 cars, but Bill would make the best of it and lay down a lap fast enough for 2nd quick on a quickly fading track. Lining up 6th to start the 2nd heat race, Bill would make his way into the 2nd position by the completion of lap one. Bill would stalk leader Ben Schmidt until lap seven when he dove under Schmidt and into the lead where he would go on to win his 2nd heat race of 2013. With quick timer Lucas Wolfe not making it out of his heat, Bill would now draw for the feature invert where he would draw the #2 pill setting him up with a 4th place starting spot. At the drop of the green Bill would make his way into the 2nd position where he would stalk leader Steve Meyer. On lap nine, coming out of turn 4, Meyer would make contact with Darrell Dodd giving Bill the opening he needed and make his way into the lead. Bill would maintain his position through the remaining laps despite several cautions and pick up win #2 of 2013 and his 5th win in 6 races at 141 Speedway.
This weekend, Bill and the B2 Motorsports team will take part in the triple-header weekend with the Interstate Racing Association. First up on Friday, May 31st is the St. Croix Valley Raceway in St. Croix Falls, WI. Last year was the inaugural event at the track for the IRA and where Bill set the track record and also picked up the feature win over Scotty Neitzel and Russell Borland. Saturday, June 1st, the team will head south about a half hour to the Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, WI for the Triple Crown. Bill was leading this event last year until the engine expired one lap too soon ending the night in the DNF. The weekend will wrap up on Sunday, June 2nd one hour to the east at the Eagle Valley Speedway in Jim Falls, WI. Bill has been victorious at EVS the past 2 seasons last year over Jim Moughan and Brooke Tatnell. The following weekend, on Friday, June 7th the team will run with the Outlaws again this time at 34 Raceway in Burlington, IA. The next night, Saturday, June 8th the team will head to the Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, IA for a weekly show at the raceway.
